I wanted to share the commissioned watercolor painting I just completed for a client. It was a pet portrait of a friend’s dog who recently crossed over the “rainbow bridge.” His name was Smokey, and my client really wanted me to incorporate the rainbow bridge in the painting. I struggled with this for a little, thinking it might constantly be a reminder of her dog’s passing and make her friend sad each time she viewed it.
After some time and actually reading the original poem written about crossing the rainbow bridge, I changed my mind. Still my first draft was to paint the dog with just a hint of a rainbow background. My client wasn’t happy with that and insisted that the bridge be included and a rainbow. So that is what I did and here is the final painting. I sent a copy of the poem along with the painting which has a happy ending. I hope my client’s friend loves the painting of her Smokey.
